Within the Theory of Translation, there are two fundamental principles, each of them equally true (in spite of the fact that his phenomenon generates):
\nPrinciple A. A text CAN be translated.
\nPrinciple B. A text CANNOT possibly be translated.
\nThe degree of truthfulness between the two depends, in part, on the typology of texts-a topic we are not going to discuss here.
\nMy personal opinion is that Finnegans Wake is the epitome of untranslatability. Scientific texts, and political texts are, by definition, the opposite. They are easily translatable-the reason simply lies in the one to one relationship between lexical items and lexical phrases, which are extremely standardized.
\nI believe that, when James Joyce maintained that the book could be translated, he was making fun of a vast number of americans, in much the same way in which he was telling the story of Ulysses to Stuart Gilbert. <\/p>\n

It is up to you, ‘Dear Reader’, to delve into this paradox. Do delve deeply, and in writing! <\/p>\n
