Contemporary Literature Press<\/i> is publishing in both English and Romanian Gelu Vla\u0219in’s debut book of poetry, which first appeared in Romania in the year 1999. This apparently violent book about psychiatric disorders actually diagnoses Romanian reality after the fall of communism. The poet describes a world that young readers today can relate to.
\nLove is not at all what this book is about, in spite of the fact that it haunts the poems. Gelu Vla\u0219in sees and describes a world in which both young sensibility and understanding are at a loss. We are publishing his poems mainly in order to signal the beginning of a poetic age which mixes Hamlet’s alleged madness with Ophelia’s more than real tragedy.
\nVla\u0219in-who came out of communism at the age of 23-writes texts which seem to be more than just literature. He makes us wonder how much has survived of what we once used to call POETRY.<\/p>\n
